NYC Asbestos ACP Records: Search by Stage and Address

Start with the asbestos record stage, then search the matching DEP tab and date window before deciding that a copy is missing. Keep the DEP form identity separate from the DOB job and permit outcome.

Name the record before opening a search

QuestionRecord branch to identify
Was the work assessed as a non-asbestos project?ACP-5 assessment
Was an asbestos project reported?ACP-7 notification and any ACP-8 amendment
Is a later abatement-stage paper missing?ACP-20 Asbestos Project Conditional Completion or ACP-21 Asbestos Project Completion, plus any ACP-15 monitor report named in the file
Is the question about the building job or permit?Separate DOB job, filing, permit or inspection record

The DEP asbestos forms page separates ARTS filing from public ACP-5 and ACP-7 search data. It describes ACP-5 as an investigator assessment, ACP-7 as a project notification, ACP-8 as an amendment and ACP-15 as a later monitor report. The signed form itself is a separate document from its label or public row.

The DOB asbestos requirements page separates exemption-certification cases, ACP-5 for work assessed as a non-asbestos project, ACP-7 for an asbestos project, ACP-20 Asbestos Project Conditional Completion and ACP-21 Asbestos Project Completion. For ordinary full-building demolition, it names ACP-5 item 8(d); the page lists A-TRU/V5 and emergency exceptions. Match the branch to the job rather than treating it as a universal rule.

Choose the ACP tab and expose the date filter

The official ACP Search Portal offers separate abatement and assessment-report tabs. Abatement searches by TRU #, BIN or Address. Assessment searches by Control Number, BIN or Address and has a PDF column. Both include date and borough controls.

On October 8, 2026, both date fields on each tab opened at 10/08/2026, the same day. Widen the date range before searching older work, and enter only the identifiers each tab labels.

Before recording a no-hit, write down:

  1. the tab used and the record class sought;
  2. the displayed start and end dates;
  3. the input label used—address, BIN, TRU number or control number—and its exact value;
  4. the borough, work area and separate DOB job number already known from other papers; and
  5. whether the outcome was an empty result, an inaccessible page, a visible entry without its document or the wrong project.

This note is more useful than a screenshot alone. It preserves which question was asked and keeps a default date window from being read as the agency’s full archive.

Match ACP control numbers and work areas, beyond the street address

Build one line for each item you already hold: document type, visible control or project reference, address and borough, structure or work area, filing or issue date, and the DOB job number if another record supplies it. Mark the source as DEP, DOB or an unknown sender.

Consider a fictional folder for Example Plaza. It contains an ACP-7 entry for one work area, an ACP-8 that cites another control number and a DOB permit printout for a separate phase. The street address matches across all three, but the control numbers, dates and work descriptions differ. Keep the records apart until a cross-reference connects them.

Suppose the portal shows an assessment row whose PDF is still unopened. Record it as “row visible; copy unreviewed.” If the target is instead an ACP-8 or later-stage paper, the row leaves both the document identity and its contents open. Ask for the named missing item and include the mismatch rather than reporting that the building lacks asbestos records.

Request a named existing copy

For a missing DEP-held copy, the DEP contact page points to NYC OpenRecords and a mail alternative. Ask there about availability and delivery for your item.

Describe the existing item narrowly: form number and stage, address and borough, known BIN, TRU or control number, approximate filing period, work area, and any related DOB job reference already in the packet. State whether the portal was inaccessible, the row lacked the needed copy, or the returned item belonged to another branch. Ask DOB separately for a DOB-held job or permit record.

The NYC DOB address-search guide helps reconcile DOB NOW and BIS job identifiers which stay separate from DEP portal inputs. The final-inspection status guide explains what shows a passed final inspection beyond a permit-stage paper.

What an ACP row, form label or empty search shows

A visible portal row shows that a filing exists; open its PDF to see whether it is signed and complete. A form label marks one stage, while DOB permit issuance, abatement completion and final inspection each have their own records. An empty online result doesn’t prove that no asbestos record or work exists, so ask DEP or DOB for the named item.

The handlers, supervisors and inspectors on these filings need New York State certificates; our New York asbestos certificate lookup shows how to check each one on the DOL list.
