Austin Demolition Records: Start and Closeout

Start with the demolition permit number, then ask what dated record answers the next step. Keep building and trade cases, acknowledgements and inspection outcomes under their own identifiers.

First confirm that the location was in the City’s authority at the time of the work. The address-verification guidance points to jurisdiction and annexation-history information. A postal Austin address is not itself the historic jurisdiction decision. No address or map was queried for this guide.

Separate before-start evidence from post-work closeout

The City’s demolition guidance lists pre-demolition inspection and adjacent notification for total or qualifying partial work over half the walls. Paid, activated plumbing and refrigerant acknowledgement precede 100 Bldg. Pre-Construction. Uploaded notification acknowledgement starts a minimum five-day window, not permit issue. Smaller partial jobs may differ.

After work, use the applicable closeout branch. The vacant-lot list includes final tree, environmental and building inspections, plus conditional water or temporary-utility items. A scheduled inspection, upload and result remain separate records. Do not impose this list on every project.

Packet itemRecord the unresolved question
Demolition permitNumber, stated scope and issue date; which building case does it identify?
First packetRecord each reference, outcome, date and missing attachment.
Later packetMatch each relevant result to the permitted scope.

Keep one line per record rather than filling a blank with a nearby status. If a document names another permit or folder, preserve that cross-reference. An inspection request shows an intended event; the dated result is the evidence to seek. A final building inspection on a different permit does not close the demolition scope by analogy.

Find the case and check what the row actually opens

The Austin Build + Connect (AB+C) manual documents Public Search without an account. It lists permit number, Folder RSN, right-of-way ID or case number; another tab uses property or project name, type and date range. Detail views can vary by case and may include processes, notes, related folders or attachments. No APN key was documented for Public Search. The AB+C page separates public search from registered application, scheduling and upload work.

Search the known demolition number first. Save its Folder RSN and any linked building or trade ID. Open an attachment only if supplied; a related folder does not join every case at one address. The AB+C endpoint returned a redirect loop during this check, so no query or download was completed.

The manual directs closed-case research to Public Search rather than My Permits. A miss in one view is not an absent permit or failed inspection. For an inactive closed copy or missing attachment, it points to the Public Records Center or public.information@austintexas.gov. It gives no oldest online year or complete attachment guarantee.

Reconcile an invented two-date folder

Imagine a fictional Lot Q folder with an issued permit, a trade entry and a scheduled event. A contractor note mentions an upload, but the folder lacks its date and event result. A later photograph shows an empty site, yet no applicable final result is attached. These invented papers make no finding about an Austin property.

The useful answer is narrower than “ready” or “closed.” Log issue, trade and schedule dates separately. Ask for each missing attachment and result by case number. If the City responds with a different number, retain both and request the cross-reference. A photograph cannot supply an inspection disposition.

Request an existing missing record by name

The City’s public-information route accepts written requests for existing records through its Public Records Center or public.information@austintexas.gov. Identify the City address, work period and known demolition, plumbing or other trade references; name the acknowledgement or inspection result that is missing. These are locating clues, not verified portal fields or proof that the City holds the item. No request was submitted.

For the general address and folder search, use the Austin permit-search guide. The final-inspection status guide explains why a result must be matched to the exact permitted scope. Neither guide supplies a demolition-specific outcome for this fictional folder.

A permit row does not prove start authorization, final inspection or closeout. Report the last dated document found and the exact next record still missing. A separate new-construction certificate of occupancy is not a demolition closeout record.

Austin official guidance checked October 9, 2026 UTC. The process and AB+C instructions were read; the AB+C endpoint returned one redirect loop. No property search, login, upload, inspection, request, contact or record retrieval was performed.
